How to be a Successful Student // life hacks

Buenos dias! Going from high school to Bible school to fashion school to now studying criminology in university, I have picked up a thing or two (also from tiktok haha) on how to be a good student.

At the beginning of every week I take time to write down everything due in each class that week. I also love monthly calendars and I colour code them to homework deadlines, social events (though not so much recently :(), appointments etc. I have a weekly planner as well but seeing my entire month laid out is super helpful to plan ahead.

Time batching – use this Tomato Timer to set periods of work time and periods of Instagram break time.

Also put your phone out of sight while doing schoolwork so there’s no distractions. My space is everything! I have to make sure it’s clean and I have a glass of water while I work so I don’t keep getting up.

Study playlist – I listened to this one on Spotify all semester and love that it has no words so I don’t get distracted singing haha

Quizlet – I love making these flashcards to quiz myself for quizzes or tests and I also send them to my friends to help study! Be the person who makes them because then you’ll know the answers are correct and you aren’t forgetting anything plus then you can only blame yourself 😉

Watch Netflix while exercising to multitask and get those good endorphins in! I also love listening to podcasts while going on walks.

The cost of procrastination is the life you could have lived.

– quote I saw on Instagram

Quillbot – put in a sentence or small paragraph and this website spits out a paraphrased version! A life saver honestly (thanks tiktok).

Knightcite – I cannot do my own citations to save my life so I use this site that formats it for me 🙂 just be sure to check afterwards for punctuation.

I use Google Docs to write my assignments and under “tools” it says “voice typing”, so I have been speaking instead of getting finger cramps. Truly life-changing.

It’s hard with school being online and working from home because it’s hard for me to distinguish when my down time is, as I’m on my laptop all the time now. I do have a blue light tint in my glasses and and I choose to work outside of my bedroom which I think has helped.

I also did this post last year with some more tips:

I love learning about all sorts of topics. I took a sociology course last semester and was nervous but it ended up being my favourite class. What are you studying?

This is so useful! Especially the citing one. 🙂 I have an assignment that I need to work on today so I’ll need to have a lot of things cited. XP

Yes, that website has been a lifesaver for me when I don’t know how to format my citations!
