What I Wish I Knew Before Bible School

What I Wish I Knew Before Bible School

Hey guys! If you were wondering where I was from September to December, here’s your answer!

I’m trying to post regularly now on Tuesdays, but I was in Australia at bible school and it was AMAZING. If you are thinking about going to bible school I want to share with you things I wish that I knew before going to prepare me in advance.

travelled to Cairns after school ended with one of the friends I made!

I went to one of the Capernwray locations (they have 28 all over the world!) and loved all my speakers and got so much out of it. The people there are AMAZING and I absolutely loved the community aspect! There are always people on campus to talk to and friends to hang out with. My location was an hour drive from Sydney, in the cutest town, on a lovely property.

  1. Wifi is limited and costs money. they sell it in GB but you’re better off getting a phone plan to use all over the country and it is cheaper. I found a super affordable brand called Lebara and the first monthly plan is $10 for 20GB!
  2. You don’t get many snacks so bring/buy your own or get used to being hungry. From having access to a pantry almost 24/7 at home, eating meals at 7:30am, 1pm and 6pm was a stretch for me and I spent WAY too much on snacks when I could have dialled it back.
  3. Roommates are awesome but you must be forgiving. If you’re used to having your own bathroom, when you go to bible school get ready to share it with at least 1 or more people. It was so fun sharing a room but I am used to putting my things away and having a tidy room but with 2 other busy roommates I had to let the little things go- like leaving shoes around to trip on
  4. God wants a relationship with you, but you must put in effort as well. If you are going to bible school to become “a new person” that’s not going to happen unless you put in the work to do daily devotions, your homework on time and spend time in bible study with your friends. I took SO many notes over the 12 weeks and was so excited to share all that I’ve learned with my family and friends!
  5. Most people gain weight but don’t worry about it too much. I gained about 11 lbs in 4 months and with being home for a month now have lost half that! (still working on losing the other half ahh). But while I was there, I enjoyed myself and didn’t let my weight scare me out of trying new foods or not hanging out with friends because I wanted to exercise. They did have a small gym but it was run by an air compressor or something and was SUPER loud and bothered everyone, so I wasn’t about to be “that girl”. I would encourage you to make wise choices on what you eat and maybe do some easy home exercises in your room at night because I wish I did more and my clothes would have fit better when I got home.
  6. Save up your $$$ BEFORE you go and have fun on weekends and don’t worry about eating out and trying new food all the time! I didn’t work very much in high school or this past summer and now I am working to pay off my travels (I just paid my parents all back can I get a wOOhOO!) It is so sad to have regrets and honestly, when am I going to go back to Australia and New Zealand with these same people? Not likely soon
  7. Bring versatile clothing. Before I got to Capernwray, my friends and I stayed in Hawaii a few days and lived in our bathing suits, shorts and tanks but when we got to Australia it was COLD. I brought pants and sweaters but not nearly enough socks or long sleeve shirts as I should have and I ended up going to Cotton On WEEKLY and bought shirts or hair scrunchies and things and I miiiiight have a bit of an obsession now… Then I just ended up wearing sweats and crop tops or mom jeans and sweaters the entire time haha. So bring clothes that can easily layer or mix and match your pieces. I also shared my clothes with the other girls which was so nice!

Hey! What did your average day look like at bible school(work wise) and did you have free time on weekends?

Hi! Every day was different but (I filmed a vlog + I should publish my Youtube channel) breakfast, morning duties, class until lunch then free afternoons. Weekends are totally free besides maybe a volunteer opportunity but I loved going to the beach or Sydney with friends!

I am definitely thinking of going to Capernwray Australia, it sounds absolutely amazing. Would you say your relationship with God grew over your time there?x

      Hi Andrea!
That’s so cool, I really enjoyed it and met some of my best friends there! It definitely grew and was super inspiring to see others in the same place 🙂 Honestly, it grows depending on how much you want it to and how much effort and learning you are willing to do. If you have any other questions don’t hesitate to ask or email me if they’re long.
